The Prime Minister has launched more initiatives to help support local businesses and residents during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Justin Trudeau says the government will increase the percentage of wages it will cover from 10 per cent to 75 per cent.
The wage subsidy will be backdated to March 15.
He says employees will be paid, even though their employer may have had to slow down or stop operations, and to help the economy recover.
The PM also unveiled the Canada Emergency Business Account, which will provide bank loans up to 40-thousand dollars, guaranteed by the government, which will be interest-free for the first year.
And under certain conditions, up to 10-grand will be forgivable.
Businesses are also being given up until June to pay their GST and HST, which Trudeau says equals about 30-billion dollars in interest-free loans.
Trudeau says he hopes these supports will help businesses who have laid off employees, to rehire their staff members.
He added that even more measures are to come to help young people, marginalized populations and those who live in poverty.
More details are expected to be released on Monday.
