Canada’s Prime Minister is meeting with G20 leaders today via video conference to coordinate an approach to flatten the curve worldwide.
Justin Trudeau says Canada will be taking part in international efforts to fight the virus, especially a UN effort to help countries in distress.
On the home front, Trudeau says a text scam is going around about the government’s new emergency response benefit.
At today’s Press conference, the Prime Minister reminded that the government is the most reliable voice about the new benefit and that trustworthy info is at Canada.ca
Trudeau also spoke broadly about the $107 billion the government is providing people and businesses to get through this trying time.
Today he highlighted that the Government will be boosting the child benefit for parents in May, supplementing the GST credit for people on low incomes and providing a six-month interest-free moratorium for student loans.
Concerning the newly imposed Quarantine Act, he reminded that if you have just returned home from abroad you have to go home and stay home for 14 days.
Trudeau says Canada recognizes we need extraordinary measures to deal with the crisis and they don’t know how long it will continue.
He says the Quarantine Act decision was enacted to ensure that people who don’t follow the instructions do.
