A longstanding Thursday night tradition will not take place this summer due to novel Coronavirus concerns.
After 25 years Cruiser's Cruise Nite will be hitting the pause button on its weekly summer car show says founder Gary Brown.
“Under the circumstances, I think it would be the safe thing to do, because we could have hundreds of people down there on an evening and we just want to keep the community safe,” says Brown.
Brown says many volunteers fall under the senior age demographic and with the tickets and cash exchange occurring with the popular 50/50 draw for the Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation (SMHF), he would be concerned for the potential spread of the virus.
'It's all volunteers, there's no club,” says Brown.
“I started it many years ago to raise money for the hospital…our 50/50 table is extremely popular …and we didn't want to potentially expose them.”
Over the years the 50/50 Draw has raised approximately $300,000 for the SMHF.
Brown says depending on the time frame and if things settle down with the virus he could see Cruiser's start up again.
“Should this thing (COVID-19) turn around and I hope to God it does, then it would not be a big problem to resurrect the cruise nite,” says Brown.
