Saugeen Shores Police have released the results from their “Hands-free initiative” and say they experienced a drop in drivers in violating this law.
In total, officers laid a total of seven charges for drivers using hand held communication devices during the two-week period (Feb 21-March 6).
Police believe a factor for the decrease in numbers is the stiff penalty this offence carries. Upon conviction the total payable fine is $615 and three demerit points, for a first conviction.
Police remind drivers that they enforce all aspects of the Highway Traffic Act year round.
