Hi, this is Fred Wallace with ” Off the Wire “.
This a very busy Monday for High School Sports.
The Owen Sound District Wolves are at the CWOSSA ” AAA ” Boys Hockey in Fergus where they’ll play twice today, hoping to advance to the Final 4 tomorrow.
Meanwhile, the CWOSSA ” A-AA ” Boys Hockey at Waterford & Simcoe today & tomorrow.
There are 3 Bluewater teams competing; the St Mary’s Mustangs, the Kincardine District Knights & the Sacred Heart Crusaders.
And while those two hockey events are significant, the biggest event is the OFSAA ” A ” Girls Volleyball Championship which commences today and climaxes Wednesday afternoon with the Championship Final.
The Championship Tournament is being hosted by the Walkerton Lady Riverhawks but with 20 schools participating, they also have to use Sacred Heart High School, Kincardine District School School & the Davidson Centre in Kincardine over the course of the affair.
The Walkerton Lady Riverhawks are the host school but they certainly did not come through the back door as they enter the OFSAA Championship as both the Bluewater Athletics Champions and the CWOSSA ” A ” Champions.
Again, it bears noting that Walkerton’s Bluewater title came against all comers and as an ” A ” sized school based on population, they had to prevail over both ” AA ” and ” AAA ” schools to win the local Bluewater Championship
The Lady Riverhawks are in Pool D with 3 matches set for today.
In order, Walkerton will go against Hillfield Strathallan College, Louis Riel & E. J. Lajeunesse
Tomorrow, the Lady Riverhawks will face Acton in their final Pool matchup, hoping to compile a good enough record to advance to the Quarterfinals.
The Quarterfinals go later tomorrow followed by the Semifinals and Championship Match on Wednesday
It’s an active Monday for High School sports, especially in Walkerton
I’m Fred Wallace
