The Roxy's new Executive Director plans to make the home of the Owen Sound Little Theatre a destination on a whole new scale.
Robert More says soon, all the way from Barrie to London to West Toronto people are going to know about the Theatre and its shows, “If you drive into a gas station at ten o'clock at night in the middle of nowhere, you're going to see a Roxy-OSLT brochure.”
“I want everybody to know about OSLT and the Roxy, everybody,” says More, a playwright, who has also been an actor, director, artistic director and general manager. Three of his plays have been performed by the Owen Sound Little Theatre over the years.
He recently returned to Owen Sound to be closer to his grand kids after being in Parrsboro, Nova Scotia for the past three years.
More says the Owen Sound Little Theatre and the Roxy have become “A major force in the arts and culture and theatre scene in Grey Bruce,” He says he's planning to tap into making the Roxy known in the Guelph, Kitchener and Cambridge theatre scenes.
“It's a venue that the musicians love, we've got all the lights, we've got the technical, we've got great sound, it's the perfect size. Now we start promoting Owen Sound as the great vacation cultural arts spot in Ontario.”
More says, “This organization is perfectly poised to become one of the premier arts and cultural venues in Ontario. It's ready to go.”
More has roots in Owen Sound, having gone to high school at OSCVI, and his parents were very involved in the Owen Sound little theatre, “
Coming up at the theatre next month is the Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Nighttime runs from March 26-28 and April 1-4. The play is based on the 2003 Award winning book by Mark Haddon and adapted for the stage by Simon Stephens.
