A evening to mark International Women's Day and to advocate for female careers in the skilled trades will be held on Tuesday, March 3 in Saugeen Shores.
The event held at Lakeshore Recreation is jointly hosted by Bruce County and the Women’s House Serving Bruce & Grey is also a fundraiser for the Kincardine based non-profit.
The Women’s House will honour two extraordinary, local individuals with one youth and adult Distinction Awards during the event.
Keynote speaker Jamie McMillan is a Journeyman, Ironworker and Boilermaker and the founder of KickAss Careers, a school and community outreach program. McMillan engages, educates and encourages youth to consider careers in the mechanical, industrial, technology, construction, and advanced manufacturing industries.
Jill Roote, Bruce County’s Manager of Economic Development notes the demand for skilled trades workers in Bruce County and says, “we need to encourage women and men to consider these fulfilling careers so that our local economy can continue to grow.”
Members of the public of all ages and genders are invited to attend the celebration on March 3, 2020, from 6 – 9pm, at the Lakeshore Recreation Centre, more information can be found here.
