Huron-Bruce Progressive Conservative MPP, and former Education Minister, Lisa Thompson is denying her knowledge of a leaked government document regarding the expansion of Ontario's e-learning program.
The Toronto Star published the article, saying the document envisioned allowing secondary school students to receive high school diplomas “entirely online” by 2024.
The leaked document also suggested cutting back school board funding province wide, and selling provincial e-learning courses to other jurisdictions.
Sources from the Star claim the article was written between March and September of 2019, when Thompson was shuffled from Education to Government and Consumer Services.
Thompson says “she cannot speak” to the document in question, saying only the government is working to prioritize the success of Ontario students.
Her comments come as the province's four major teachers' unions ramp up job action, as they look for a new contract with the Ministry of Education.
Two of the four unions this weekend agreed to delay further teacher walkouts, as talks resume for a new contract with the province.
