The youth of Saugeen First Nation will be holding a peaceful protest and march Friday evening in solidarity with the Wet’suwet’en First Nation.
Local activist Kim George says the Saugeen First Nation youth have been keeping a close watch on the issue of consent in the unceded territory in British Columbia and its battle with the proposed pipeline for liquefied natural gas.
“Social media is very good…to bring awareness to what is happening globally and what is effecting North America and they (Saugeen Youth) want to use their voice to help out,” says George.
Adding, “they saw their (Wet’suwet’en First Nation) land was being infringed upon without their consent..their territory is protected but the gasline and the Federal Government and the RCMP have come onto their territory.”
George said the protest is located at the Aaron Roote Youth Centre off Highway 21 at 4:30pm and will include speakers; with plans for the march beginning between 5-5:15.
