Students at Saugeen District Senior School are experiencing the benefits of outdoor winter activities thanks to a community donation by Mowbray's Canadian Tire.
In 2019 the Saugeen Shores business in partnership with the Jumpstart Program donated funds to purchase Nordic Ski's for the school and earlier this month the Mowbray's donated 1,800 worth of snowshoes.
Keith Day a teacher at SDSS says the equipment is available to Phys Ed and Developmental Learning classes as well as the competitive SDSS Nordic Ski team.
Day says the competitive team aims to get on the skies twice a week; while the snowshoes are used by the Developmental Learning class one day a week a unit of study.
Currently grade 9 student Sarah Poole is representing the Royals for cross-county skiing at OFSSA in Huntsville.
“All of the members of the SDSS community feel very privileged to have such caring and committed partners,” says Day.
