2019 was a banner year for construction in Saugeen Shores.
Mayor Luke Charbonneau says Saugeen Shores saw a record $128 million in construction value, which represents an increase of 33% over 2018.
Commercial construction value in the community was more than eight times higher last year than in 2018, increasing from $2.15 million to $18.2.
132 new residential units were created in 2019 with a value of more than $69 million.
Charbonneau says there's no doubt Saugeen Shores is the fastest growing community in the region and that's driven by many of the new nuclear programs that have been developed.
The Mayor says this kind of growth that brings in more permanent residents “puts tools in our tool chest to deal with issues like affordable housing, accessibility issues; building recreation facilities to improve the quality of life for everybody in the community.”
