The Hanover and District Hospital is receiving provincial recognition.
HDH says President and CEO Dan Howes has been ranked among the top five hospitals in Ontario, as an Acute Care Hospital with the Best Overall Patient Safety Culture.
The survey which is provided by Accreditation Canada is based on staff perceptions of patient safety at a point in time.
Howes is very pleased with HDH’s high ranking but not at all surprised.
She says patient safety is a priority at HDH, and the Hospital is always striving to make improvements wherever possible.
HDH utilizes the results of this annual survey to strategize ways to further enhance and promote patient safety.
This includes a focus from an occupational and patient medication safety point of view.
Howes says HDH will continue to enhance and promote patient safety through the concept of a “Just Culture of No Blame”.
The premise behind this says Howes, is that we want staff to feel that they can bring issues, concerns and mistakes forward without fear of reprisal.
The Office of the Auditor General of Ontario conducted its annual review that included evaluating patient safety amongst the 123 acute-care hospitals in Ontario.
This in accordance with the Excellent Care for All Act, 2010 in which hospitals are required to survey both staff and patients annually with respect to quality and safety of care.
