Over the last few days a coyote has been spotted roaming the streets of Hanover.
Amy Marshall was in for a quite a surprise when she gazed out her large bay windows around 6 am to see a coyote on the street in front of her home. (Monday January 27th)
Marshall who grew up on a farm stresses she knows the difference between a dog and a coyote and this was definitely a coyote.
At first her claim was met by skepticism by her husband but as more and more sightings were reported of the Hanover coyote on social media she says there is now no doubt.
Marshall says while it was a little exciting to see a coyote up close from the comfort of her home, she urges residents to keep a close watch on small children as well as their pets.
A handful of people have come forth on social media claiming to have seen the coyote over the last few days.
One woman says it ran right out in front of her near the Hanover trails saying “Looked like it was on a mission.”
Another woman managed to capture a blurry photo of the coyote on 12th Ave. (January 28th).
Her social media post was followed by more comments from other people who also report spotting the coyote in various areas of Town including 12th Avenue, 17th Avenue, 21st Avenue as well as near the Exceldor factory.
This is the breeding season for coyotes which increase their activity as they search for possible mates.
Experts warn that if you encounter a coyote:
– never approach the coyote
-do not turn your back on it or run
-back away from the coyote while remaining calm
-stand tall and wave your hands making a lot of noise
