Crime Stoppers of Grey Bruce says it will continue to offer cash rewards while the Toronto branch will stop, for now.
In a media release, the local chapter of the organization explains Crime Stoppers in Toronto is doing a pilot project where instead of giving out a reward for tips, it will put the money towards parts of the city that are impacted by crime.
Crime Stoppers of Grey Bruce says not everyone is motivated to give tips because of the reward. They say many people report crime because they beleive it's their civic responsibility.
Since 1987, 15,508 tips have been reported in Grey Bruce. There have been 1,665 arrests relating to those tips.
Crime Stoppers Grey Bruce reports $3.9 million worth of property has been recovered since 1987.
$272,760 rewards have been approved locally.
