As of February, Hanover residents will have to travel to Walkerton or Durham to visit a Service Ontario Centre.
The Hanover office which is privately not Ministry run has decided to close up shop.
For many in the community, this is very unwelcomed news as most enjoyed having local access to an Ontario Service Centre in their own town.
On the bright side, Service Ontario says it is looking for a new service provider for Hanover, but in the meantime residents will have to either travel out of town or access services online.
Service Ontario says customers can access more than 40 services online, including health card renewals and a number of driver and vehicle services.
These services can be accessed https://www.ontario.ca/page/serviceontario.
Service Ontario reports that the government is improving its digital platforms to make high-volume services that are already available online easier to use and is making more services available online.
The government is starting by enhancing Service Ontario's top 10 transactions, which includes the issuing of driver's licences, health cards and vehicle permits.
The move towards digital-first however says Service Ontario officials will not mean the elimination of in-person options.
A spokesperson for Service Ontario's Communication Department Harry Malhi notes that while a service provider may choose to exit the business at any time, Service Ontario has not initiated the closure of any private Service Ontario location.
