The iconic Lion's Head Lighthouse is no longer standing after this weekend's winter storm, which brought forth damaging winds and icy conditions.
This isn't the first time the Lighthouse which was built in 1903 saw destruction; in 1913 it was moved off by high winds and even caught fire years later. It has been rebuilt several times due to the high-energy weather conditions of Georgian Bay.
In 1983, a group of high school students built a replica model lighthouse, which had stood until Sunday (Jan 12).
The late October 2019 damaging winds hit the lighthouse; the same storm also eroded parts of the exterior of the Southampton Range Light.
The Federal Government has maintained the navigation light in the lighthouse; which is owned by Northern Bruce Penninsula.
