A new Owen Sound to Guelph bus route will launch on January 15th.
This route is being run by a private company, Kasper Transportation.
Kasper has held the Owen Sound to Guelph route licence since 2018.
Last year, the city of Owen Sound put out a Request For Proposals to establish an Owen Sound-Guelph bus service that would receive provincial grant money.
According to Kasper Transportation President Kasper Wabinski, they pursued the RFP but were turned down due to disagreements between the company and the city.
Wabinski says that despite being turned down for the city route that Kasper is committed to running their route in Owen Sound.
“We have the ambitions and goals to rebuild what Greyhound has abandoned,” states Wabinski. “We will recreate that in a new modern version with routes that bigger buses can service.”
Kasper will be using the Owen Sound Bus Terminal for arrivals and departures.
The Kasper route will see two mini-buses taking passengers from Owen Sound to Guelph.
Meantime, Director of Public Works for Owen Sound Dennis Kefalas says that the city will begin their route by the end of March.
Both the city route and Kasper route will see a one-way cost from Owen Sound to Guelph of around $25.
