The Province's Special Investigations Unit has ended an investigation into an arrest in Hanover last month.
Interim SIU Director Joseph Martino says on November 6th, a 65 year old man was arrested by Hanover Police officers in relation to an assault.
Martino says the man was taken to the Hanover Police station and held in a cell, and when the man complained of pain in his right hand, he was taken to hospital where he was diagnosed with fractured fingers.
Martino says, the man's injuries happened when he fell sometime before he came into contact with police.
He says there is no suggestion to believe the man was the subject of any untoward conduct on the part of the police.
Martino adds the SIU is satisfied there is nothing to investigate as far as the potential criminal liability of any police officer is concerned.
The SIU is an arm's length agency that investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
Under the Police Services Act, the Director of the SIU must consider whether an officer has committed a criminal offence in connection with the incident under investigation and either charge the officer or close the file.
