TC Energy is hosting the first of three open houses tonight. (Dec 11)
From 5:30 until 9 p.m. the community is invited to the Meaford Community Centre to hear about TC Energy's plan for a pumped water storage facility on Department of Defense lands in Meaford.
Project Manager John Mikkelsen will make a 30 minute presentation which will give an overview of the proposed project.
TC Community Relations Specialist Jennifer Link, and Mikkelsen were on On today's Open Line show on AM 560 CFOS.
Link says after the overview is presented, there will be subject matter experts to talk about the project from an environmental perspective, a community relations perspective, and an engineering perspective.
Link notes, “This is very, very early engagement and there will be lots and lots of opportunities for further community engagement.”
She adds there will be two more open houses on January 16th and on January 23rd that will follow roughly the same format for those who can't make tonight's meeting.
Meanwhile, Project Manager John Mikkelsen explains pumped storage holds large amount of electricity by using gravity and water, “Water is pumped from a lower elevation to a higher elevation. You store it and when electricity is needed, you simply reverse the flow, so water would flow from the higher elevation to the lower elevation and in process pass through turbines which generate electricity,” says Mikkelsen.
A local group calling themselves “Save Georgian Bay” has expressed environmental concerns regarding the project, and says some of their members will be at tonight's meeting with questions.
