McDougall Energy has made a donation of $5,000 to the Grey Bruce Animal Shelter.
The company says this donation is in honour of the second-generation owner of the company Joy McDougall.
Joy McDougall was known for taking in surrendered pets and rehoming them, according to the release.
A median release explains the funds will be put towards veterinarian care for pets.
Deb Takeda, Board Executive and Shelter Manager for the Grey Bruce Animal Shelter says, more recently some rescues have needed more expensive vet care and a donation like this offsets those costs.
“We had one case where the dog was a stray and had got into something toxic,” Takeda says, “Then another with a bulldog where the eyelids had rolled back in so the eyelashes were scratching her eyes.”
Takeda says, typically to take in an animal, nurse them back to health and rehome them it costs around $1,000 per animal.
She says donations like the one from McDougall will go a long way and help push the shelter's message of 'Community helping community.'
