Meaford will soon be adopting a Business Recognition Program.
Council accepted a staff report outlining the program on Monday.
The idea came after a motion from Councilor Tony Bell and received praise from fellow council members.
Deputy Mayor Shirley Keaveney spoke highly of the program.
“I think the municipality recognizing longevity in business will be well received in the business community,” states the Deputy Mayor.
Keaveney then suggested that the program be expanded to give recognition to local non-profit organizations.
Bell says that the report supports this change and agrees it would be beneficial to the community.
“Those groups could enter into recognition the same as for profit organizations, ” Bell suggests, “I am open to it.
Council then directed staff to include non-profit groups in the program.
Council will vote on the program and amendment on December 16th.
