The Bruce County budget for 2020 is going up nearly 5%.
The 2020 budget, requiring a levy of 49.85-million-dollars was adopted on Thursday, December 5th, reflecting an increase of over 2.8-million-dollars from 2019.
Warden Mitch Twolan of Huron Kinloss says it's defintely higher than in the past few years but “It is a budget really reflective of getting our long-term care facilities maintained and in a good place.”
Twolan says councillors decided some time ago to do the right thing to get Brucelea Haven in Walkerton compliant and to keep Gateway Haven in Wiarton compliant and if it meant putting more money towards that goal, then they would do so.
A recorded vote was taken and all councillors voted in favour of the increase.
The finished budget will come to a future regular Bruce County Council meeting.
