A new residential subdivision planned for Owen Sound's east side has cleared another hurdle in the approval process.
City council approved a draft plan for Bremont Homes' 328-unit subdivision branded “Telfer Creek” at its Nov. 18 meeting. The property to be developed is located north of 8th Street East, near the Owen Sound Regional Hospital.
“They're keen to get going and start to build some houses and this is good for Owen Sound,” the city's mayor Ian Boddy says. “We need houses and affordable housing. They've got a mix of different styles of houses in their plan.”
The draft plan outlines mixed-residential uses for the site including 43 single homes, 51 semi-detached, 31 townhouse units and apartment-style buildings with 230 units and possible main floor commercial space.
The plan also includes details about a future road construction that will extend 20th Avenue East through the subdivision to link 16th Street and 8th Street East.
A Bremont spokesperson indicated in September the company is looking to start building model homes for its development next fall.
Bayshore Broadcasting News reached out to Bremont Homes for an update to its plans but has yet to receive a response.
According to a city staff report, next steps in the process include by-law enactment, notice of decision and appeal period, fulfillment of conditions (by Bremont) within three years, final subdivision approval and site plan approvals and build out.
