Saugeen Shores councillors spent 90 minutes behind closed door to discuss the negotiations for the lease affecting the Port Elgin Waterfront Revitalization Project.
When Mayor Luke Charbonneau was approached to find out if there was any news, the cards were played close to the chest.
He says, “Council gave direction to staff to assist in completing negotiations for the waterfront lease. That's all I can say on that subject.”
Mayor Charbonneau says however, you can infer from the statement that negotiations are ongoing.
He says it's not much information right now, but the municipality is “eager to get things back out into the public forum.”
The mayor says he expects a successful conclusion with success being defined as a “really positive revitalization of Port Elgin's main beach.”
A group of local business people want to create what they call Cedar Crescent Village.

The proposed multi-million-dollar restoration would include things such as a full restaurant; a convention hall; a viewing tower and in the winter a skating rink.
On the other side, a group known as the Port Elgin Beach Preservers are against the draft idea and have distributed flyers to homes, spelling out their side of the story.
