Hi, this is Fred Wallace with ” Off the Wire “.
The first of 8 Ontario Hockey League regular season meetings between the Owen Sound Attack & Kitchener Rangers is tonight in Kitchener.
The game is the latest in a sequence of 8 straight road games for the Attack against divisional opponents, and Barrie who may as well be a divisional opponent, to start the season.
Owen Sound’s road record is 1 & 1 and drawing a conclusion from that small sample would be tough enough, but the degree of difficulty is heightened by results that are so widely separated.
The Attack won their road opener 10-0 at Barrie….that speaks for itself.
The following night at Guelph though, Owen Sound was blanked by the industrious Storm 4-0.
So……..well, who knows ?
The matchup tonight is more complex when you consider the Rangers, thought by many, including me, to be among the OHL contenders this year needed a come-from-behind effort to win their season opener at home against Saginaw, and then promptly lost their next 3 on a Northern road swing; albeit they managed points in 2 of the 3 road outings.
Again, we’ll see what transpires tonight
On another hockey note, the WOAA Senior Hockey season begins tonight with the Shallow Lake Crushers hosting the Elora Rocks at 8:30 in the Shallow Lake & District Community Centre.
Tomorrow night, the Saugeen Shores Winterhawks play their first game, a road game against the Ripley Wolves.
Keep in mind, the Winterhawks and Wolves will be a 5 pm start tomorrow afternoon and the game will be contested at the Davidson Centre in Kincardine.
Have a great weekend.
I’m Fred Wallace
