Provincial Police have confirmed one driver was responisble for two car crashes on the Sunset Strip this morning.
First, a report came in that a vehicle crashed into the front of No Frills at the Galaxy Centre.
A spokesman from No Frills would offer no other comment than to say the store had been hit by a vehicle and No Frills was open and operational.
Meanwhile, a witness at The Beer Store states a car went through the rear parking lot that is south of the McDonald's-Beer Store location, and crashed into the wooded area.
The witness states emergency services attended the scene. The male driver was not seriously hurt but was taken away for observation.
Another eyewitness to the incidents tells Bayshore Broadcasting News the same driver was involved in both crashes at No Frills and near The Beer Store. Police confirm this.
The witness says a vehicle first crashed into the front of No Frills. Then the driver accelerated out of the grocery store forward at a high speed and advanced across the parking lot and through a red light at the intersection in front of McDonald's, driving up the curb near The Beer Store before crashing into the escarpment.
A spokesperson for the Inter-Township Fire Department says the driver was an elderly man who had completed his grocery shopping at No Frills.
The fire department spokesperson says the senior male claims to have accidentally put his vehicle in reverse, causing the crash into No Frills.
The spokesperson confirms the driver then drove across Highway 6/21 at a high rate of speed before crashing into trees in the escarpment near The Beer Store.
Grey Bruce OPP say officers were called to the incidents around 8:20 a.m. and an 81-year-old male driver was taken to hospital with minor injuries as a result.
Police say no pedestrians were injured or vehicles damaged in the incidents.
OPP continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the actions of the driver and the resulting two collisions.
