Beginning today (July 15), outpatient laboratory testing at South Bruce Grey Health Centre's (SBGHC) will transition to Dynacare at Chesley, Durham and Walkerton sites.
SBGHC says the only change patients will experience is they no longer need to register to have their blood drawn and Durham visitors will now go next to patient registration.
Patients with a requisition for blood work can proceed directly to the Community Lab Collections room to have their samples collected, and samples from patients, will now be sent to Dynacare for processing.
The transition of this service is part of South Bruce Grey Health Centre's (SBGHC) Budget Recovery Action Plan.
“For the outpatients (testing) we don't get money, but private labs do,” say SBGHC CEO Michael Barrett. “So it really makes no sense for us to continue to do that testing when we have an opportunity for someone whose funded to do provide that service, to provide that lab testing through the partnership we're going to create with Dynacare.”
Dynacare is funded by the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care. Laboratory testing for inpatients and emergency patients will remain in the hospital.
The hours of operation for Community Laboratory Collections will remain the same as the current Laboratory hours:
SBGHC Chesley – 8:00 AM-1:30 PM Monday to Friday
SBGHC Durham – 8:00 AM-2:30 PM Monday to Friday
SBGHC Walkerton – 8:00 AM-2:30 PM Monday to Friday
