The grand opening of Launch Pad’s new Wood Shop is taking place today from 11 am till 6 pm
Executive Director Emily Morrison invites everyone to come out and celebrate with Launch Pad on their newest addition to their Trades Training Program.
The Wood Shop features all of the equipment and tools needed to provide youth with hands on wood working experience.
The Wood Shop is an impressive centre with all the new equipment and tools used in the woodworking industry including a drill press, skill saw, band saw, circular saw, and everything in between.
Morrison says having this Wood Shop as part of Launch Pad’s Trades Training Program further allows youth to explore different career opportunities in the trades.
She says Launch Pad is very excited to partner with those in the woodworking industry to create skilled trades training opportunities in wood working.
After all, Morrison says Grey Bruce has a very strong wood working manufacturing industry that is facing an aging work force, she says this same industry is looking for youth to join them and help grow their companies.
The Wood Shop will provide hands on training to youth from those in the wood working industry.
In turn , youth will also have an opportunity to tour and visit wood working industries in the region to witness the local skilled trades workers performing their craft.
The Wood Shop is the result of a lot of hard work, planning and partnership.
Launch Pad transformed an old 30 by 40 foot storage shed located on site into the beautiful wood shop it is today.
The 30 thousand dollar project received some financing thanks to a 10 thousand dollar donation from Gay Lea Foods and a 3 thousand dollar donation from the Grey Bruce Community Foundation.
Along with youth using the Wood Shop, Morrison says Launch Pad will be working with industry partners and employment centre who may interested in utilizing the Wood Shop during the day when youth are at school for employment training purposes.
