Hi, this is Fred Wallace with ” Off the Wire. “
The Minor Hockey season is ramping up, heading to a climax at the end of this month with a variety of playoff games at every level.
Today, we’ll touch on a couple of notes;
First, congratulations to those who organized and many thanks to those who participated in the BarDown for Barnard.
In a nutshell, this was a charity hockey activity whereby the participants paid to play with all proceeds after expenses going to assist the Barnard Family as they treat a leg issue that’s affected netminder Alyssa Barnard of the Owen Sound Ice Hawks Bantam Girls team.
After 90 minutes of ice time, the figure released was in the neighbourhood of $ 3,800 raised. Well done.
And finally, I was invited to attend a Local League Peewee game recently that pitted Owen Sound against Owen Sound.
The punchline, of course, is that Owen Sound won ( Hahhaha )
Truthfully it was the Red Squad who scored late to break a 2-2 tie with the White Team and went on to score an empty netter to make the final 5-2.
For me the score wasn’t significant, I really had no stake in the game.
What was great fun was picking out the former Blue Jackets, Penguins and McDonald’s Atom Reds that I knew from previous years and seeing how fast their games have evolved and the upgraded skill level they now possess.
It’s a great time of the year for Minor Hockey. Enjoy.
I’m Fred Wallace
