A brand new daycare and education centre is coming to Saugeen Shores sometime in 2019, according to town staff.
Preliminary construction work has begun in the 1200 block of Highway 21 (across from the Bruce County Public Library).
Not much information is available yet, but according to Saugeen Shores Development Co-ordinator Jay Pausner, the facility will be approximately 6000 sq. ft.
He says that the original design plan is for a two-storey building. The second storey would contain leasable office space and possible retail space, that Pausner says would be ideal for any Bruce Power affiliates that are seeking a place to set up shop.
No leases have been signed, but Pausner anticipates that a restaurant may also end up sharing the space.
Director of Engineering and Public Works Amanda Froese says that the site plan may be modified, however, and if that happens the offices and retail space will be located in an entirely separate building.
There will be two points of access. One will be on Highway 21, and the other will be on Concession 10.
Pausner says that the daycare company plans to hire local, although the number of jobs that will be created was not specified.
He says that the need for daycare services is not being met in town, and hopes this new facility will be a catalyst for change.
