Ontario residents can now renew their photo health card online at ServiceOntario.ca/RenewCards.
To renew a health card online, people in Ontario need a valid driver’s licence, to have lived at the same address at least 90 days prior to renewing, and to keep all other personal details the same.
Individuals can still choose to renew their health card in-person at a ServiceOntario centre.
There is no fee to renew a health card either online or in-person.
If your identity cannot be verified online, you will need to renew your health card in-person.
If you need a photo for your health card or driver’s licence, renewing both at the same time in-person will improve your chances of being able to renew both online the next time around.
To use this online service, you must have:
– a photo health card that will expire within 90 days, or has been expired for less than 90 days and be eligible for OHIP coverage
– a drivers licence that isnt expired for more than 90 days, suspended or cancelled
– a drivers licence that does not require a test
– an up-to-date photo and signature on your drivers licence and health card (check your renewal notice to see if you have to renew in person)
– an up-to-date address with ServiceOntario for both your health card and drivers licence: if your address has changed you will not be able to renew online until you have lived at your new address for at least 90 days
If you are between 75 and 80, you have to renew your health card in-person to take a new photo. If you are 80 or older, you can also renew your health card by mail.
