Hanover is losing a doctor and gaining a new one.
One of the Hospitals resident doctors will begin practice this July as another physician retires.
After 32 years of service to Hanover, Dr. Rochelle Dworkin is retiring and Dr. Marc Labelle is taking over her family practice.
Labelle who hails from northern Ontario says Hanover felt like the right fit for him.
Along with family medicine, Labelle also plans to help out in the ER and the nursing homes, his specialities include critical care and acute care.
For the last year Labelle has worked at the Hanover Hospital as a Resident Doctor.
He will finish up his Family Medicine Residency program in the coming months and begin his family practice on July 1st to coincide with Dr. Dworkins retirement.
As for Dr. Dworkin, while she is retiring from family medicine she will continue her dermatology services by running a clinic in Hanover.
Dr. Dworkin played an instrumental role in bringing the Rural Residency program to Hanover which is credited for recruiting a number of doctors to the region over the years.
So it is very fitting that one of the residents from the program that she helped launch will take over her practice once she retires at the end of June.
Vice President of Human Resources Stacey Hogg says the Hospital is very excited to welcome Dr. Labelle, while at the same time acknowledging the incredible impact Dworkin has had on the community over the last three
decades.
She says physician recruitment remains a key priority for the Hospital as there are more physicians quickly approaching retirement age.
Hanover like many area rural hospitals is considered under serviced when it comes to doctors.
Dr. Labelle will inherit 16 hundred patients once he takes over Dr. Dworkins practice July 1st.
