Hi, this is Fred Wallace with ” Off the Wire “.
As we take a deep breath between games 1 & 2 of the Ontario Hockey League Western Conference Quarterfinal between the Attack & London, as the Durham Thundercats gear up for Game 3 of the WOAA Senior Championship at Clinton tonight & as the Patriots & Siskins switch from Stayner to Mount Forest for game 2 of their PJHL series, it’s easy to overlook what’s ahead when the here-and-now is so compelling.
If we were to look ahead, we’d see ball, hardball, fastball. both itching to get going when the fields dry and the sun brings us pleasant temperatures.
In the world of fastball, the Ontario Amateur Softball Association is offering a Springboard program for youngsters April 7th & 8th based at Owen Sound District Secondary School.
The OASA will return to Owen Sound July 28th & 29th for the Under 19 Provincial Championship Tournament, which based on the U16 nationals two years ago, should be a dandy.
And even more exciting way down the line, the local fastball organizers in the city have been awarded the hosting rights for the 2019 Canadian Under 19 Championship Tournament.
Again, a couple of years ago, Owen Sound hosted the Canadian Bantam Championship Tournament, an 8 team event where 7 teams were in the thick of it and the eventual winning entry from Shallow Lake had to go 4 & 0 on the final day to score the National Championship
Fastball this year, and next, is coming, probably quicker than we know.
But in between, for this weekend certainly enjoy the climatic playoff hockey games in the OHL, the PJHL & WOAA Senior
Have a great weekend.
I’m Fred Wallace
