Shoppers, employees, Sobey’s and Foodland execs, local mayors and even Cubby, mascot of the Owen Sound Attack crowded into the grand opening of the new Foodland location on the Sunset Strip this morning.
The newly built 36 thousand square foot store just outside Owen Sound has more produce than the former store and a large health food, gluten free and vegan section.
Franchise Owner Bill Graham says his store serves people in Owen Sound and Georgian Bluffs. He’s “happy and also relieved that it’s now open and all the hard work is going to pay off now,” says Graham.
His new 24-hour store has a new ‘meals to go’ deli selection, a fresh pizza oven, a sushi chef and an executive chef who can be found at the butcher’s counter.
In fact, Graham says the executive chef will cut meats to order and can also give you their expert advice on how to cook it.
Starting on April 1st, the store will also sell wine and beer.
Graham’s next big project is to tear down the old store in the next few months and replace it with green space including picnic tables. “People can go and enjoy themselves in the summer and eat.”
He says on that outside wall of the store he has added a mural of his favourite historical pictures from Owen Sound and Georgian Bluffs.
The store is located in the 900 block of 10th street west.
