A man charged with sex offences involving children has been released on a recognizance to reside in Durham.
West Grey Police say 44-year-old Stirling W. Young was charged with sexual assault, sexual interference and luring a child contrary to the Criminal Code by York Regional Police.
Robert Martin, West Grey Chief of Police, released the personal information under regulation 265/98 of the Police Services Act, which gives the Chief of Police authority to disclose if he reasonably believes the individual poses a “significant risk” of harm to other persons or property and believes disclosure reduces that risk.
Police say conditions of his release include not being in the company of or communicating directly with males or females under the ages of 18 years — excluding family members — except while in direct company of his surety or while purchasing food or goods in a public place.
Young is not to attend public parks or swimming areas where persons under the age of 16 are present or can reasonably be expected to be present. Daycares, school grounds, playgrounds or community centres are also off-limits.
He is not to seek, obtain or continue with any paid or unpaid activity that involves being in a position of trust or authority with persons under the age of 16 years.
Finally, Police say Young is not to attend any hotel, motel or inn except in the direct company of his surety and he must reside with his surety in Durham each and every night.
West Grey Police advise Young is presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law, but remind residents to be vigilant in regards to safety of their children and report any suspicious people or activities in their neighbourhoods.
