Good things come in three’s for the Barrie Colts.
Andrei Svechnikov had a hat trick in a 6-4 victory over the visiting Owen Sound Attack on Thursday night.
The Colts took a 2-0 first period lead on goals by Justin Murray and Svechnikov.
Owen Sound responded in the second period with goals from Chase Campbell and Jacob Friend to tie it up at 2-2.
Newly acquired Colts forward Aaron Luchuk (1 goal, 2 assists) scored to give Barrie a 3-2 lead before Ethan Szypula answered back for the Attack to make it 3-3 at the end of two.
Aiden Dudas (1 goal, 2 assists) gave Owen Sound their first lead of the game with his third period goal to put the Attack up 4-3.
Lucas Chiodo responded for the Colts to tie it up at 4-4.
Svechnikov got his second of the game at the 12:54 mark for a 5-4 Colts lead and later added one into an empty net.
Alexey Lipanov (3 assists) and Joey Keane (2 assists) also had multi-point games for the Colts.
Leo Larzarev made 30 saves for the Colts (18-10-2-1) while Mack Guzda stopped 29 shots for the Attack (14-12-1-3).
Power plays saw Barrie go 1-for-3, Owen Sound were 3-for-5 with the man advantage.
Prior to the game, the Colts acquired the 20-year-old Luchuk from the Windsor Spitfires for second-year forward Curtis Douglas, Sudbury’s 2nd Round Pick in 2021, Barrie’s 2nd Round Pick in 2022, and Barrie’s 3rd Round Pick on 2024.
The next game for the Colts is Friday night when they travel to Erie to play the Otters.
The Attack’s next game is Saturday night hosting the Kingston Frontenacs.
