Hot on the heels of a story we did that Saugeen Shores wanted to attract a major hotel chain, comes news that one is about to land on the Lake Huron shoreline.
The owners of Summerside, Lord Elgin Estates Developments Limited, have reached an agreement with InterContinental Hotels Group or IHG for the development of a Holiday Inn Express and Suites in Port Elgin.
It will be a 60 room hotel on the residential/commercial development lands of Summerside at the north end of Port Elgin.
Tentatively the location is planned at the northeast corner of Devonshire Road and Waterloo Street.
Construction is expected to begin in the early spring of 2018 with the hotel being operational in 2019.
In addition, on the adjacent commercial block at the northwest corner of Devonshire Road and Goderich Street, a new office complex and restaurant are planned in 2018.
IHG has over 766,000 rooms and 5,174 hotels across nearly 100 countries.
