They’re the best ribs in the world and they’re coming to Owen Sound.
That’s according to Ribfest Director Ricky Brooks who says this weekend you can see for yourself at the 7th Annual Owen Sound Ribfest at the Bayshore Community Centre.
“You can’t get them at restaurants,” says Brooks noting “Most restaurants don’t have the smokers or the time to bring ribs to the perfection that these pit masters from the US and Canada bring.”
Brooks says the five teams from Texas, Florida, Alabama and Ontario smoke their ribs for about 12 hours in their big smokers, then finish them off with sauce and char them on the grill to give you that nice barbecue flavour.
The teams are Camp31 from Brewton, Alabama, Billy Bones from Fort Erie, Ontario, Sticky Fingers from Castleberry, Alabama, Pistol Pete’s Oklahoma Smokehouse from Vancouver and Uncle Sam’s Barbecue Stand from Texas.
Brooks says there will be other foods like poutine, funnel cakes and corn dogs, along with vegetarian items and gluten free things to eat.
There will be a beer garden sponsored by Molson.
Brooks says if you’re not a beer drinker there are some Pop Shoppe and Palm Bay coolers.
Ribfest has live music every night.
Friday night is Country night sponsored by Country 93 and features Meaford artist Emma Wright and Rich Cloke as a headliner.
Saturday night is rock night with a Canada 150 theme and a Tragically Hip tribute band called The Almost Hip.
A Blue Rodeo tribute band will play on Sunday afternoon.
There will be bouncy castles for the kids and a number of activities including
a rib eating contest, face painting, Sky-Mazing Parasailing Adventures and an Epic Adventure Room.
Ribfest takes place on Friday, September 15th from 5p.m.-11p.m., Saturday the 16th from noon to 11p.m. and Sunday the 17th from noon until 6 p.m.
Admission is $3, kids 12 and under are free and parking is free.
