Hi, this is Fred Wallace with ” Off the Wire “.
Among the activities in front of us this weekend is a crucial homestand for Owen Sound Grey Motors United.
Tonight at the Kiwanis Soccer Complex at 8:45 pm, Grey Motors will host Banat SFC.
Banat is 4th in the league standings.
Then Sunday afternoon at 5 pm, the first place Polish Eagles are in Owen Sound to face United.
Grey Motors enters the weekend just 3 points out of a playoff position, but with only 4 games remaining, a win is needed this weekend and a pair of wins, albeit they would be upsets, would be tremendous.
The belief from the Grey Motors brass is they’ll need 2 wins in their last 4 games to have a shot at the post season.
While United is the considered underdog for both matches, the big factor in their favor might be home field where they have posted a 5-2 & 1 record in this their first season in the Kitchener District Soccer League.
Elsewhere this weekend, the 2017 Harness racing season wraps up at Hanover Raceway tomorrow night with a 7:15 post time.
While not guaranteed, it appears Bruce Richardson will be the top driver this year in terms of wins.
Plus, the Owen Sound Attack who are 3 & 0 in the Ontario Hockey League pre-season play their final 2 exhibition games against the Battalion; tomorrow afternoon in Owen Sound and then Sunday afternoon at North Bay.
Have a great weekend.
I’m Fred Wallace
