A new Foodland location will soon start to rise on the western edge of Owen Sound.
Owner and franchise holder Bill Graham says work has now started on demolishing the old Towers or Zellers location on the Sunset strip right adjacent to his current Foodland store.
Once that demolition work is done by mid-September, a new 34 thousand square foot store will be built.
Graham says it will be about 6 thousand square feet larger than the existing store, and the focus will be more on the fresh departments like produce and deli meats.
That fresh section will make up 60 per cent of the store roughly, and dry grocery or non perishables will fill in the remaining 40 per cent of the store.
Bill Graham adds he will likely hold job fairs in January or February, as employment at the Owen Sound Foodland will go from 100 to about 160 in the spring of 2018.
He says both he and Sobeys, which owns the Foodland chain are confident in the future of Owen Sound, Georgian Bluffs and the whole area.
