The Saugeen Valley Conservation Authority is opening the door to a hidden gem.
Manager of Communications Shannon Wood says the SVCA will be hosting “Legends of the Great Swamp” at the Greenock Swamp.
She says the swamp is Southern Ontario’s largest forested wetland and has a little bit of a unique past.
Wood tells Bayshore Broadcasting News says there are stories of people getting lost in the swamp and never coming out again, man eating plants and a mysterious green light.
She says there are also stories of cattle running away from nearby farms and getting lost in the swamp.
Wood says legend also has it that during prohibition people set up stills in the swamp and made their own moonshine.
A tour took place the end of this month and was a success.
Wood says another tour will take place September 9th, and they already have interest in keeping the tours going next year.
Wood says there has been so much interest in the swamp and that prompted them to create the tours.
Tickets can be purchased on Eventbrite (search Legends of the Great Swamp), by calling the main office at 519-367-3040 or by emailing publicinfo@svca.on.ca
