The towering new piece of the Sauble beachfront landscape, Ascent Aerial Park opens Saturday.
Co-Owner Mike Robinson says he and Ryan Gardhouse are opening the climbing park a little early, before they finish the admissions and equipment building at the front.
Resembling something you’d expect to see pirates climbing on, the roughly 40 foot tall and 50×50 foot structure stretches from Lakeshore Boulevard back almost to Second Avenue North and has three levels of difficulty from bottom to top, not to mention an incredible view.
There are ropes and nets to climb, planks to balance on, tires and blocks to hop along, a quick drop cable as well as a rock climbing wall.
Robinson says kids as young as around seven can go on the course; it’s mostly about a height requirement.
“Once you’re on the course, you cant fall off. It’s bombproof, foolproof, so you dont have to worry. You can just focus on getting your way through the challenges and having fun,” says Robinson.
The park will open for its first season this Saturday from 10am to 9pm.
Once the season kicks into gear, Robinson says it will be open every day until labour day and he hopes to be able to keep it open on weekends in the fall depending on staffing.
