Something new is coming to the Port Elgin beach/harbour area and yet at the same time, it’s something nostalgic.
Saugeen Shores Community Services Director Jayne Jagelewski tells Committee of the Whole on May 8th, that private operator Mike Brill wants to provide boat excursions from the harbour.
Jagelewski says “The vessel holds approximately 12 passengers with 3 crew members.”
She says Captain Brill hopes to be able to conduct the cruises 3 or 4 times a day during the prime summer season which could include sunset cruises as well.
The 46-foot-craft will head towards Chantry Island but will not dock there however, will give passengers an opportunity to have a up-close look at the iconic island.
Jagelewski says Brill would like to begin some weekend cruises as soon as weather warms up and improves later this month.
The tours would last one to two hours.
The boat’s crew are trained in emergency procedures including safety, fire suppression, first aid and marine first aid as required by Transport Canada.
Jagelewski says Captain Mike Brill has been a Captain since 2009 and has captained commercial vessels on the Great Lakes.
