Hi, this is Fred Wallace with ” Off the Wire “
The Owen Sound Grey Motors United Soccer Club announced that they will be playing their 30th anniversary season in the Kitchener and District Soccer League.
In the 2017 soccer season, Grey Motors United will compete in the top division with 11 other entries from Kitchener, Waterloo, Cambridge, Guelph, Stratford and Listowel.
The arrival of United into the Kitchener loop is a return to what should have been their roots 3 decades ago.
Based on geography, Owen Sound soccer teams have always been aligned with those centered in the Kitchener region.
However, when the United entry was founded in 1987, there was a bond between the Owen Sound organizers and the operators of the York Region League which tied United in with outfits from Barrie, Newmarket, Orangeville and others.
As time progressed, the soccer landscape altered and Owen Sound has drifted to other loops, most recently the Ontario Soccer League
But in very short order, Grey Motors United will commence play in the KDSL
Coaches Martin Clark & Bill Ruck will need to get their training and preparation concluded quickly as the 22 game schedule for Grey Motors United begins April 30th at Cambridge.
