A new affordable housing development will soon go up in the northeast part of Owen Sound.
Owen Sound Housing Company Limited has the go ahead from the City to start the first phase of a three phase 90 unit development.
It will be locted along 9th Avenue south of 23rd Street East.
Phase one would have a mix of townhouses and apartments in 7 four plexes.
Phase two would have a 54 unit apartment building close to 9th Avenue East.
Phase three would be an eight unit townhouse building.
Mayor Ian Boddy says there’s a waiting list of around 300 people for affordable housing in Grey County, and the development will be a “real asset for the community.”
Work is expected to get underway this spring, with the hope of finishing phase one by early summer 2018.
Non-profit housing board manager Shari Huber says timelines for phases two and three will depend on funding.
