More good news for Saugeen Shores on the doctor front.
Council has approved an agreement with Dr. Daniel Gusberti who will be practicing on a full time basis at the Saugeen Shores Medical Clinic.
He will also work in the hospital’s ER beginning March 1st.
Dr. Gusberti will be accepting new patients through the Health Care Connect program as well as those seen in his current clinic.
Gusberti is replacing Dr. Jessica Leung.
Mayor Mike Smith says a lot of work goes into attracting doctors to the community.
He points to the recent expansion at the Dr. Earl Medical Clinic in Port Elgin which now has a total of five doctors–the same as the clinic in Southampton.
The Mayor says when newcomers are looking for a place to relocate and retire, they looking for communities that have doctors and a hospital.
He says Saugeen Shores has the doctors and the Saugeen Memorial Hospital in Southampton is in the midst of expansion and renovations.
Town CAO David Smith says although the number varies, at last check, the orphan patients in Saugeen Shores is around 300.
At one time, it was as high as 2,000.
The CAO urges residents without a doctor to register with Healthcare Connect.

Dr. Gusberti comes from Edmonton Alberta, where he completed his residency training and was a practicing Family Physician.
His fiance Merideth Shular is from Southampton who now returns to start a job at Bruce Power.
