A show of support for the local Muslim community in the wake of the mass shooting in Quebec, will be held Thursday in front of Owen Sound City Hall.
Several residents are planning to hold a solidarity gathering at 2pm at the corner of 2nd avenue east and 8th street.
It is being led by the Owen Sound and Vicinity Ministerial association in collaboration with a number of other local faith groups.
A spokesperson for St George’s Anglican Church says during the roughly half hour event, the local Imam and other leaders will speak about the need for solidarity.
The names of the men who were killed on Sunday evening will be read out.
There will be a prayer, a moment of silence, and singing of the national anthem.
Flowers or ribbons are welcome during the gathering.
Meanwhile on Friday, everyone is invited to attend a sermon and prayer beginning at 1:15pm at the Mosque at 895 7th street East in Owen Sound.
Those who attend are asked to remove their shoes in the Mosque.
There is room at the back for visitors who want to take in the prayer, while women must wear headscarves if participating.
The President of the Owen Sound Muslim Association, Sikander Umar says they have been overwhelmed with support since the shooting in Quebec city.
Also Friday, a vigil will be held in front of the Kincardine Islamic Centre at 6 pm in solidarity with Muslim families in Huron-Bruce.
The centre is at the corner of Broadway and Queen in Kincardine.
Organizers says the event will allow residents to come together, make clear that all newcomers are an integral part of the community and that hate has no place in our society.
