There’s a big change coming to a major rodeo event in Southgate.
The Holstein Rodeo has been cancelled after 15 years due to financial constraints and rising security costs as well as inspection costs related with such an event.
The event is being replaced with a newer, more inclusive and industry focused event called the Holstein Agro Expo.
Don Lewis, one of the original organizers, says it was just time to move on and time for change; he says they’re going back to their roots.
Lewis says the new event will be more of an industry focus and will feature events like sheep and shearing along with dog trials and more agriculture related things.
Winners of the sheep shearing will go on to compete at the Calgary Stampede.
The new Holstein Agro Expo runs July 1st, 2017.
