Hi, this is Fred Wallace with ” Off the Wire “.
I had a great chat with Rachael Rier of Hanover last week.
Rier, who’s a student at Sacred Heart High School in Walkerton, had just returned from the Aaron Baddeley International Junior Golf Tournament in California.
The experience was a great news-bad news-good news sort of scenario.
The great news was that Rier was one of just 9 Canadian juniors who qualified to compete at the international event.
The bad news, by her admission, was her performance in which she shot in the 90’s in 2 of the 4 rounds she played.
To be fair, it’s important to remember Rier is from Hanover and not Harbour Springs, so she hasn’t been on the course for a day or so.
Most of all, Rier found the experience to be one of positive self discovery; identifying tough situations, developing a mental toughness to deal with it and rise above it.
It will be a day or so before Rier drives and putts again, but the experience in California should make her a focused player the next time she’s on the fairways and greens
I’m Fred Wallace
