Six homes and one church will be open to the public tonight and Saturday as part of the Chantry Island Chambette’s 8th annual home tour.
The Cooke Home at 56 Grosvenor Street in Southampton prides itself on energy efficiency, and was designated as a LEED Platinum Home.
It has also won a Cross Border Challenge international contest in 2016 as the lowest energy-use rated home in Canada in it’s category.
The Berry home at 28 Miramichi Bay Road in Port Elgin was inspired to look like an old cottage — although it was built in 2009 — by the Berry’s honeymoon in Nantucket.
The Roberts home at 53 Fenton Drive in Port Elgin boasts a fantastic view of Lake Huron, custom built with an exterior of stone and reclaimed wood.
The Smith home at 657 Mill Street in Port Elgin was built back in 1965, with memorabilia from the original George family who lived there 151 years ago.
The Kidson/Durrer home at 16 Snyder Street in Port Elgin belongs to Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation Executive Director Sally Kidson and Bruce Durrer — and has tall cathedral ceilings and rake-head windows with plenty of sunlight.
The Tiffin home at 310 Concession 4 in Port Elgin was designed and built in 2015, featuring real wood siding and stone accents — and a 16 foot sliding door opening onto a covered porch.
Chantry Island Chambette Sahar Hassanien says last year, the Chambettes gave the Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation a cheque for $16,000 after selling 900 tickets for the tour.
This year, she hopes they’ll raise even more money because they’ve added the Caitlyn Cobean Community Crusadors and other community projects to the list of beneficiaries.
At one of the houses, Hassanien says they’ll also raffle off a huge decorated Christmas Tree with a retail value of $2500.
Tickets are available at Accents, Cathy’s Flowers ‘n Treasures, Ports Emporium in Port Elgin, and Bayberry’s in Southampton for $20.
During the tour, tickets will be available at one of stops — St. Paul’s Anglican Church in Southampton.
The tour begins at 6PM Friday until 9:30PM, and again on Saturday from 11AM until 4PM.
